Rather than foster the billions of human intelligences with which we are already manned, we must create “intelligence” that resembles our own assessment of ourselves as “intelligent.”
Does this not belie itself?
Our specialty: To mimic and to mock.
What if, instead, we used all that capital and time and brilliance to conceptualize and create a world where we made the most of what we have? An ostensibly endless source of what we deem intelligent. What if we paid what we know it costs to nurture every mind?
I read somewhere that humanity is in regression. What are we without attention; what are we without time; what are we if we cannot think?
I read somewhere else about culture as a result; that we cannot clearly assess culture as it happens because we are of it and because it is merely an inadvertent reaction.
AI cannot think; it has no inherent stimuli - we are the stimuli. And sure it reacts, but have you ever seen an intelligent reaction? Maybe an intelligent response, but what is the predicate of a response? Thought.
Seeing that we decide on the stimuli and we know what kind of initiatives mankind tends to pursue (irrational, illogical, myopic, presumptive, oppressive, power-obsessive, etc.), we should know where this is headed.
In retrospect, which is the only way to assess culture, have we ever seen a culture get it right or save itself?
We know what it costs
To imagine at will
Time that is not paid for
And time that is free
Brilliant!
Spot on Maxine!
